What's the easiest way to make your basic data accessible without putting a tree on Ancestry? I'm not ready to publish a book or make a website, I'd just like to point to something that anyone can access when they ask.

I find the Reunion Book feature quite helpful for this purpose. All the information is there, and it is interactive too. Being a PDF file means that everyone can access them.

WikiTree is an option. It's free. However they discourage people from loading thousands of records at once because they don't want their tree to descend to the quality-level of many Ancestry trees.

Or you can set up your own web site using TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Site Building) - but that will cost you $5/month or so. Here's mine: http://www.bishir.org

Or you can submit your GEDCOM to the LDS Pedigree Resource File (PRF) so that it goes into Granite Mountain forever and it will show up on FamilySearch.org. But you can't update it to correct mistakes. https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/..._Resource_File FamilySearch has their public "one tree" as well which they call "Family Tree".

I have done all of the above (including an Ancestry public tree and FindAGrave profiles for most of my direct ancestors) as "cousin bait" but I usually point people to my web site (above) because it has all my information, sources, photographs, etc. in one place.

I second that. I recently started using Weebly. But it is somewhat limited. You won't be able to upload your entire database, but instead will need to create graphs and reports and upload them. You can click the links in my siggie to see my site in progress.

Thanks for all of these ideas!

I think a combination of these suggestions works for me. Providing the family charts that Reunion creates as images on a website seems best for what I want to do. They are easily changed as the data changes.

I just use Reunion to create a Report-> Web Project
and then copy the entire resulting directory over to my website's directory and its ready to go. You can see the result here:

You can use any web hosting site, including things like squarespace.com, rackspace.com
or even Amazon Web Services. Prices typically start low, about $10 a month.

I do have a wishlist item submitted to let the generated website be better for modern use, but it works fine as is.

I regularly have cousins fall into my web site and contact me. Its a great way to reach family members that I never knew.
