I use it, but not for serious research - more for fishing for contacts.
I've uploaded a subset of my family (no living people apart from myself, blood relations and their spouses only, minimal information and no sources). I did this using the GEDCOM facility.
My self-imposed restrictions limit it to 3391 names (out of some 8000 in the main file), but even so I have accumulated 3126 matches within 418 other family trees. Of these, 1602 have not been confirmed by the owner of the matched tree. And I have also rejected an unknown but large number of false matches.
Handling smart matches is time-consuming but has generated several good contacts and some new information (which has to be verified if possible, though some is personal knowledge by other users).
The matches are "patchy"; some popular individuals are matched in many trees but the majority have no match at all. There must be a lot of data incest about!
My MyHeritage tree is out of date in places but I am discouraged from uploading another GEDCOM because that creates a new, independent tree and all the smart matches would have to be reconfirmed. I just can't face the prospect!
From your comments, it sounds like this is a good idea poorly executed. I think I will spend my $ elsewhere...
