Text from books

I would like to avoid retyping passages I have found in published stories relating to persons included in my Reunion file
I have tried to scan the copy of the passage I wanted to insert into my Notes and I dragged this jpeg image into the Notes area.
The passage of text certainly appeared in the Notes as I hoped but the text then disappeared

Is there a short cut available.
Obviously the source of the text would be acknowledged

I believe the image will have to be treated as multimedia and be attached to the person as a picture or to a source. I don't think you can embed it in the notes directly.

Tim is correct, images can't be imbedded in note fields.

You would need OCR software (optical character reader) to actually *read* the text on the picture and turn it into text. This isn't trivial -- which is why sites use "capcha" codes to decide if you area a human. You are reading the text/numbers on a visual picture, which can be difficult for a machine to do (if the text is garbled, which is what a capcha uses).

Many scanners come with some kind of OCR software on the accompanying installation CD. You may want to check and see if you already have it installed. If so, then you just need to learn how to use it.

Use an application like OmniPage Pro X, scan the text and convert it to digital content that can be in the notes.

Omnipage Pro X was a great OCR program, but it's a PowerPC program and won't run on the Intel Macs with current OS's.

I haven't found anything nearly as good that will operate on current Macs, but ABBYY FineReader Express is at least servicable and will get the job done.

PDF-OCR-X is cheaper, and I find it works pretty well. It's actually free for a 1-page at a time version.

I have had good success with an app on my iPhone called Image to Text. I photograph the text and the app emails it to whichever address I want. It needs to be typed text as the app can't read handwriting, but it has been most useful.

For handwritten text I dictate into Dragon Dictate app. I've used this for my father-in-law's memoirs. It remembers changes and new words and even recognises my Kiwi accent.

I assume this is a response to "Omni Pro X won't run on the Intel Macs with current OS's", and I further assume that you're running a rather old OS X. If you've managed to get Omnipage Pro X to run on a recent OS X version, I'd love to hear more.
