    Merging sources

I am cleaning up my sources, and find I have quite a few duplicates - a hang over from the days when I created a new source for every citation.

I am planning to merge these, but I am not sure what will happen to the media I have linked to each source. Will all the media linked to the sources be consolidated and linked to the new "merged" source, or only the media from the "master source" be retained?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Cheers,
    Teresa

Be very careful! I really messed up my family file when I tried to merge a couple of sources! Had to send the file to Leister to fix. Unlike Places, Sources can be a mess. Now, I just change the source when I come across an old one that needs updating or changed.

      Thanks Kaye......now I'm a bit nervous :-) I appreciate the advice!
I will start with a couple of minor sources first and see how I go.

When you merged yours, were there images involved?

Just a reminder to be sure to backup your family file BEFORE you try making any changes. That way you can go back to it if your changes mess up the file.

It's been awhile but don't think images were involved. I don't have many sources with images attached...although I've been thinking of trying that.

Good advise from Kathy C. - backup! I hadn't started doing that when I messed up!
