    Individual Timeline Report?

I am wondering, is there anyway to created a 'timeline' report for an individual? I know that Reunion has a Timeline report, but it is not what I am looking for. I am looking for something that lists the important events in a persons life, in chronological order; things like birth, census, marriage, birth of 1st child, census.....death.

Right now I am using an Evernote template from Cyndi's list, but I feel like I am spending a lot of time duplicating what I've already entered into Reunion. (On the plus side, as I enter the data, it is forcing me to re-evaluate my conclusions and look for more answers!) Before I do too many more of these, I want to be sure I'm not missing something that can be easily done in Reunion.

Here is a screen grab to better explain what I am looking for...

    Kim-
Reunion 11's Ages Sidebar is similar to what you describe, showing ages, dates, places, and events, but without sources. And the layout is a bit different, not organized one line per date but rather all info in a single indented column.

See “ages sidebar” (without quotes) in the help pages for full information. From there you can click the share button at bottom of the sidebar to export the sidebar to you word processor for editing.

Thanks! This isn't quite was I was hoping for, but I think I can make it work 90% of the time. And on those other 10%, it will give me a good start by letting me see important events quickly. I think I'd seen this before, but couldn't think of what to search for in the help section. And of course....I didn't notice it there in the sidebar!

        Re: Individual Timeline Report?

Hello all. Great way to create a concise report and the details allow you to quickly check for mistakes.
One aspect I was disappointed with was the report using myself listed all people correctly but my two grandchildren who were adopted by my daughter, were listed as birth and the place Calcutta.
Basically this is correct but they are adopted as babies, (their parents unknown), not *born* to the listed parents.
Maybe I am just being a bit too critical.
I found too, that to copy to Pages did not include the photos. Maybe I missed something?

Then I found the Preview/print which does include the pages, this file is a PDF so need to save it somewhere. Or just email it. Great stuff from Leister. And co.
Having fun here on a cold winters day.

I like what you did with that template in Evernote. I am thinking of doing a mini bio for everyone in Reunion-sort of like a timeline. I am hoping that by using a mini bio that will show the blanks I have as far as records are concerned but I certainly don't want to duplicate my effort! The timeline in Family Tree Maker is one thing I liked about the software but decided to stick with Reunion.

Just to be clear, I didn't design the template I showed. It was designed by Cyndi Ingle of Cyndi's List. You can get the template here.

I use several of her Evernote templates. You can take a look and decide if any would be useful for you.

Kim, here is how I do it:
                Uncheck all
Go to the person you want to have on a timeline - check just that person
Go to lists - choose Events
(For this timeline you'll need to have previously added anything with a date like census & residence)
When you have the timeline, you can send it to Word if you'd like. I go one step more and copy and paste in info to Excel (I like grids). You just need to adjust the columns.

                  Thanks for explaining, Carolyn.

I wish it was easily imported into grid form in Evernote, but that is an Evernote shortcoming and not a Reunion issue!

Oh, interesting, I never thought about that. You can drag an Excel file into Evernote - you just have to click it to open on your Mac and your phone.

There's no need to copy and paste the info into Excel to get a Timeline grid. A Word table is a grid, and I just figured out how to get a Word doc Timeline for an individual as a result of this thread (thank you!). Here's what I had to do in Reunion that was a little different than Carolyn, then after that, five images are attached that show how to easily make your Word timeline grid.

                      Reunion:
                      1) I had only one person checked, but when I created the List and selected Events from the callout, I got a results list of Events for every person in my database. I clicked on the Settings icon at the bottom of the Results: List-Events window and chose "Who: Marked People." Everyone was deleted except my marked person.
                      2) Clicked the Share icon at the bottom of the list, chose Destination: Open in Word.

See attached images to see what I got. Word creates tab-delimited rows of all the rows that were in the Reunion Events tab of your marked person. You drag/move the tabs to solve spacing and wrapping issues, then do Table/Convert/Convert Text to Table and choose Tabs as the delimited. Bingo, it turns your person's Event data into a grid.

With text, I always prefer working in Tables in Word over using Excel, unless computation functions are needed in the document. (You can add up a column of numbers in a Word table, but it's pretty useless because it won't automatically refresh the total if you change one of the numbers.) For those who aren't familiar with the Table function, I strongly urge you to familiarize yourself with it, it's not hard. My lists of books and microfilm to look up on research trips are in a 3-column table: 1) Call number/author/name of book or film; 2) Who/What to look for; 3) Results found (or not). Couldn't do any of my work without tables.

FWIW, image captures were created and annotated in Snagit.

                      Cheers,
                      Susan

                          Re: Individual Timeline Report?

You're welcome, Carolyn! Here's another graphic you might need. As I worked with my new timeline in the Word doc, I found:

                          1) Reunion seems to export the data into the Publishing Layout view in Word. I changed it to Print Layout, the view I always work in.

                          2) The text's right-hand margins within each column can end up outside the borders of any given column, causing you to not be able to see all the text. It might look like it's running off the right edge (i.e., you can't see all of it) instead of wrapping within that cell of the table.

I have attached a screen capture to show how to fix that.

                          Susan

Just curious — what do you see as the advantages to using a Table in Word over an Excel file? (I have neither, but am wondering if the same philosophy would apply to a Pages Table instead of a Numbers file.)

Also, I'm wondering if you could post an example of the table you use for your research trip?
