    Convert Text in ahnentafel report

Trying to create an ahnentafel report. Selected "word" as document type, and "open with microsoft word" However, it then tries to force me to "convert file" and none of the options are Word. In fact none seem to be "readable!"
What's wrong? In a previous version of Reunion, I could do this, but now in version 10 I don't seem to know how.
    Thanks

I'm not sure of the problem. However, I do have a suggestion.

Try re-selecting your version of Microsoft Word by following these steps...

    1. Open your family file and choose Reunion -> Preferences.

    2. Click on the Reports in the Preferences window.

    3. Select "Word Processor" in the Options list on the left.

    4. You should see "Microsoft Word" selected on the right. Click on it and select "Other..." from the menu that opens.

    5. Next, in the Choose Application window that opens, scroll down and open the Microsoft Office folder, re-select "Microsoft Word" and click "Choose."

    6. Finally, close the Report Preferences window and try creating another Ahnentafel report in Reunion 10 by choosing Reports > Ahnentafel, etc.

I hope this is helpful in solving the problem:-)

      Tried what you said, but...
I do note now that when I open Report Preferences and click on Word Processor, up comes "Microsoft Word" in the tiny "window" to the right saying "Microsoft Word" and under that (in grey) is the path - Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Microsoft Word.app.
However, when I create a report it still opens that "window" giving me options with a header that says "convert file from" - since I knew that others had been created in rtf, I selected that and the document did open in Word, but in .rtf, not .doc or .docx format. I can then Save As either .docx or .rtf, so it works, but seems a roundabout way to have to do it.
Does it to you? Is there still something "wrong?"
      Thanks again,
      Ed

        Ed,

No, there's nothing 'wrong', nor is there anything that Reunion can do about it unless the programmer's were willing to build in the capability to output text files in a variety of native word-processing formats. What you are 'suffering from' is Microsoft Word's strong preference for saving files in its own preferred format (docx in the latest versions) You would be likely to meet similar messages using any Word Processor that can read/write RTF Files but has it's own native format set as the user's preferred option for saving text documents, including Open Office/LibreOffice etc. You can change those preferences in Word but that would then apply to all documents you produced. You could also look for (change) any user setting in Word that allows you to turn off warnings about files that aren't being loaded/saved in the preferred format.

The advantage of RTF files is that virtually all word processors can read and output those files. Disadvantages include that the files produced are, compared with other modern formats, comparatively large; and, if you want to take full advantage of your word processor's capabilities, then less of the complex formatting options you may use can be preserved in an RTF file, i.e. its not capable as more modern formats in presentation terms.

          Mervyn,
Thank you so much for your reply. I'll "live with it." It is not a huge deal - just different from the older version of Reunion (IF I remember correctly - senility has set in, I realize).
