    Template Family File

I want to create a template from which to start all of my new Reunion files. In order to take advantage of customization I've already done to source settings I want to start with a file I use often, but delete everyone (and all sources) in it. That will give me an empty file but still keep my source format settings.

I've marked all people in the file and they all appear in the sidebar, but I see no tool icon at the bottom of the sidebar, nor does Delete show up under the file menu.

And when I go to Sources Delete is still not appearing under the File menu. However the tool icon is at the bottom of the sidebar, so I could delete them one at a time. I just can't find a way to select all of the sources.

What am I missing? And maybe there is an easier way to do what I want?

    Thanks for any help!

It sounds like you want to make an empty copy of your family file, yet keep all your field definitions, layouts, defaults, etc. In old versions of Reunion this was called making a "clone" of your family file. For instructions, search the users help pages for the word "clone" (without quotations).
I don't know if this will delete your sources and still keep your custom source types and source field definitions, but give it a try and see if it does.

File > Export > Reunion Family File...
Make your choices - No people > All sources > No multimedia > Logs (leave blank)
      Click Export
Choose/make new name & choose where you want it
      Click Export

You will have an empty file, set up your way with all your sources available.

      Hope this helps.

Not knowing what your planned usage is: It may be the time to think about the extra work and confusion this will cause for you ..... if your research is for just your family. There are many discussions on this issue in these forums.

Polly - what you want is to Save a Cloned copy of your file - it will contain all of the structure of your current file and be empty of data.

          Cheers

True, but it no longer seems to be called a "Cloned Copy" on the menu in R11, it's just File > Export > Family File and selecting no people, no sources, no multimedia.
