    Importing Multimedia to Reunion 11

I exported my family file from Reunion 10 to Reunion 11 and checked the export all multimedia box.
Unfortunately none of my multimedia from Reunion 10 imported to Reunion 11. I am using the same computer and the same file links. Is there something else I need to to do?
    Everything else imported beautifully.

Export/import is not the way to upgrade the file to the newer version.

Trash the v.11 file you created. Then start up v.11 and go File > Open and choose the v.10 file. It will upgrade everything for you and bring along all of the media.

      Hi Bob,

Thank you! That worked beautifully. Kathy

I did the import from 10 to 11 properly and SOME of my ~3000 pics imported the way I'd want them to. However, a significant percent of them don't appear on the screen or show up in reports unless I click on the media box one at a time and click on the photos one at a time. They are all still in the original folder in Finder. And, their filenames show up correctly in the link in the media box (I can get to them by clicking on it). BUT they don't show up in family view or print in a family group unless I click on each "broken link" image one at a time and re-crop it.
Which brings up another irritation. It takes at least 2-3 tries to apply a crop to an image. No idea why. I've been doing this for a long time (I have ~3000 images after all!) and can't figure out why it's so reluctant now.

I am having a similar problem. I have a tree imported from family tree maker. All the image links are correct, but when I create a report, it says it couldn't find them. But then in the Multimedia Usage Report, the images are all there, correctly linked. Just like you, I find that if I click in the media area where the image should be, the cropper comes up. If I then escape out of it, the image appears.

This isn't really viable ongoing! I wondered if the field in the GEDCOM was somehow named wrongly, so I tried re-exporting one that I'd manually clicked on and examining the file, but it was the same. Could anyone shed any light on this? It's frustrating!

Ultimately I'd like to have a workflow where I can import a GEDCOM (with correctly linked media files of course), into Reunion, and the output a web report that contains the photos for each person.

Could there be a missing flag somehow in the GEDCOM output from Family Tree Maker? (that is, the flag that says 'use this as the primary picture for this person'?). I did try putting one in, but still the primary people photos won't come up until I click on the person.

Thanks in advance for any help

          Jonny

            Jonny,

            Please try the following.

First, create a backup of your family file using:

File -> Save a Backup Copy...

            Then, go to:

            Reports / Multimedia Usage

And Option+Click the Tools icon (looks like a hammer) at the bottom. Then, choose "Break All Media Links" from the menu that opens.

            Next, go to:

            Reunion -> Preferences... , Multimedia

And ensure the folder containing your multimedia is listed under "Multimedia Search Folders", then click "Repair Multimedia Links...". Once that process finishes, click "Rebuild Thumbnails..." then click "Proceed" in the window that drops-down.

See if that resolves the issue. If not, let me know.
