Using both Reunion 10 and Reunion 11

I have been carefully following all the posts on Reunion 11, and I am very excited about trying some of the new features!

However. I do not want to have to use Dropbox, for various valid reasons. I want to continue to be able to connect to my iPhone.

So - it looks like I need to stick with Reunion 10.

My question? Is this true: I open my Reunion 10 file in Reunion 11, creating a new file, and make changes, then I will not be able to open that new file in Reunion 10, correct?

The only solution I can think of is to continue to do my work in Reunion 10, then open the file in Reunion 11 to take advantage of features like the book option.

Any comments or thoughts? Is anyone else dealing with this?

I'm not dealing with the same issue as yourself, because I do use Dropbox, specifically for the synchronisation of Reunion files, but your understanding is certainly correct from my experience of converting files from the R10 to R11 format.

However, the downside of the approach you've outlined would probably be that, if you were developing a Book report on a family in Reunion 11, then each time you edited your Reunion 10 Family File and converted that to an updated Reunion 11 Family File, you would have to start your Book again, as the original Family File (containing the defined Book structure) would be over-written by your updated version. I don't think there is any way of avoiding that, but I may be wrong

Personally, I do not use Dropbox and do not want to use it and, consequently, I have not installed ReunionTouch. I do use Reunion 11, but I also keep Reunion 10 for a very specific thing: as a means of putting my family files on the old Reunion for iPhone/iPad app. I export a GEDCOM from Reunion 11, then open it with Reunion 10, and then send it to the Reunion app on the iPhone/iPad. The fact is that my Reunion for iPhone/iPad have always been used simply to show my family files around, never to do any updating from the app. So this setup is quite OK for me.

Thank you so much for taking time to reply - this sounds like the perfect solution for me, as well!!

Is is possible to change from Dropbox to another choice? This could be another cloud service such as iCloud, (or in my case my own cloud server). That could solve the problem for anitab. The iPhone could easily connect to iCloud, unless, of course, no online information of his/her data is required.

Re: Using both Reunion 10 and Reunion 11

Without searching old threads, it seems to me this issue came up previously (or something closely related). The very general answer, I am led to believe, is that Apple has lots of stringent rules about the way apps are used, how they interact, etc... AND that Leister has chosen not to jump through all the necessary hoops. Hopefully, one of the staff will explain much better next Monday.

Apps that synch through iCloud have to be sold through the Mac App store.

Leister Productions have so far chosen not to do this.

I use Dropbox for work and don't intend to pay extra for more space to hold Reunion (I'm near the limit now). I'd like to use my iPad and sync it with my MacBook, but for now I'll stick with Reunion 10. If 11 becomes compatible with iCloud, I'll use that. It's where my personal stuff resides.

So start a second Dropbox based on another one of your email addresses -- at no cost. They are based on email addresses -- not names. Create a free address at Gmail, Yahoo, etc., if you need to for this purpose. Added bonus is that you could store some of your backup type material there.

What a very good idea, Bob. Never thought of that one
