    Re: Deleting Family Files

I am currently using Reunion 10.0.6 and am moving to Reunion 11. I currently have 3 family files on my system, and before converting to 11, I would like to delete two of the files, leaving me with one pristine file. I have looked at Reunions contents, but cannot see how to do this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Reunion family files are like every other file on your computer: you delete them in the Finder, by dragging them to the Trash and then emptying the trash. You don't use Reunion to delete them.

That said, make sure you're deleting the files you want deleted. Maybe just drag them to the trash, and don't empty it until you're absolutely sure.

And I would suggest that you not have just one copy of your file. You really should keep a current backup file somewhere!

(BTW, after you convert to R11, you will have three R10 familyfiles and one R11 familyfile, so that should make it easier to sort out which is the one you want to keep.)

      Re: Deleting Family Files

      Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the helpful reply. Two of the files are test and only one dated one, which is the one I wish to retain. I did not want to leave them in 10.0.6 and get them all converted to 11, as they are not required. So far as backing up is concerned , I use a Time Capsule for back up and presumably, if you use a mobile device, would that not also, constitute a 'backup'?

I did not understand your point: (BTW, after you convert to R11, you will have three R10 familyfiles and one R11 familyfile, so that should make it easier to sort out which is the one you want to keep.)" The reason I wish to remove the two superfluous trees, is so that the one R11 Family tree, is the right one. Am I missing something?

Time Capsule is a good backup. (Though it doesn't hurt to just have a copy of the file elsewhere for good measure).

When you open R11, it will ask you to open your family file. Obviously, this will be one of your R10 files. R11 will convert it to R11, creating a new file. That will leave the original R10 file intact on your hard drive. It won't convert any other file. So if you start with 3 R10 files, you'll convert one of them to R11, so you'll have 1 R11 file and 3 R10 files when you're done.
