    Re: Spouses - terminology

I have a set of inputs which are as follows;_

    1) My grandmother never married, but had 5 children with my grandfather. She then had, after his death, another child, my uncle, to an 'unknown' father.
    2) Somehow, due to my input, they are showing as:-

    Spouses and Children
Grandfather as spouse with 5 children
My half uncle in twice, once with nothing in the father box and another with 'Unknown' as the father.

Can anyone help me unravel this? How do you deal with an unmarried situation, for entry purposes. My grandmother took my grandfathers name and externally gave the appearance of being married but technically, was not.I would like to delete the tree with nothing in the father's box, but have no idea how to do this. None of the named individuals appear more than once, so it is a presentation issue.

Reunion offers a couple of choices for inputting unions such as the one in your tree. In the marriage box you can choose from: Unmarried, Common Law, Civil Union or Domestic Partnership.
Your grandmother and grandfather should be listed together with their five children, with the option above that you have chosen. Then your grandmother should have a second unknown partner with your half-uncle as their child.
I'm not sure how your half-uncle is showing up twice, who is the mother? Is your grandmother listed twice also? You need to look at those two entries, make sure your h-u is connected to your grandmother as a child of her second unknown spouse. The other entry should be dragged into the clipboard and deleted. ~Lily

      Hi,
Thanks for your very helpful reply. I have managed to delete the no father entry, by going into Reunion Touch and unlinking. There were no duplicate entries, so odd. I am still a little puzzled over the 4 options, as to which applied to my grandparents. I think that I will just plump for unmarried. Thanks again for taking the time to help me.
