What happens to sources in importing one Reunion file to another?

I created a separate file for one GGF and going back, because the data was based on stuff another researcher told me (and which I attempted to prove). If and when I decide I'm comfortable combining this as yet small file with my main Reunion file, what will happen with the sources? In my main file, I have upwards of 3000 sources; the new one, being small, only has 50 or so. What will the merging do to the sources numbers? Will the imported sources be re-numbered, or will they keep the same numbers and thus create duplicate numbers?

There may be a problem here...

I suspected something was wrong last week so I tried an experiment.
    1. Create a clone of a Family File I was using (Export, no people, no sources, no media (there aren't any anyway), no logs).
    2. Import the original file into the clone, all people and all sources.

The original had 691 sources, the new one in the clone only 639 - 52 had gone walkabout.

I took the trouble to match the sources in the original with the sources in the copy, and found that they were missing from the copy here and there in ones and twos. The sources were renumbered.

I sent the original file and the copy to Leister for examination over the weekend, as I assumed my file was faulty. But maybe the problem is elsewhere?

They don't usually take long to reply. Hopefully they will repair my FamilyFile if it is broken Watch this space...

Most likely is that you have unused sources in your original file ?

No, I checked that, and there were no unused sources and no gaps in the source numbers.

I had a reply from Mark Harrison today. It read: "The problem you were seeing was the result of several sources somehow being assigned the same GUID (this should never happen, we’re not sure what caused it). Included in the attached ZIP is a copy of your file with this issue fixed".

So I am now a happy bunny. Darla, maybe you should try a similar check in case you have the same problem? AFAIK there is no other way of finding out...
