    Re: removing a duplicate source

I'm beginning to understand - the clip you are showing must be of a report - if so, which report? (Do you have to customize the report?)
I really want to understand this, because I would love to have this type of basic timeline on a report for my ancestors!
I do understand the using of an additional note field as 'dates', so I can at least do that; but would love to have a report like you showed.

      Anitab,
I think thats just a standard Family View that Michael has, the extract isn't from a Report.
Michael will correct me if I'm wrong, but he uses more than one View. Views are highly customisable. You can also use Smart lists to achieve the effect you desire.

Thank you so much to both of you - I've just added a dates field under notes, and customized my family view, and I am very happy with the results - so glad for the ideas and the help!

I like this idea, too. I do make timelines when I am having trouble with a person, but what a great idea to keep it in Reunion!

I like this also but I guess I am a bit dense when I try to figure this out in Preferences... How do you create Dates? It asks for Abbreviation, Narrative Form and GEDCOM tag... What did you put in those fields? Is the GEDCOM tag NOTE or DATE? I guess I just need more details and if you wouldn't mind sharing I would very much appreciate the help in setting this up in my Reunion. Thank you, Judy

Judy - go to Preferences>Fields, to the Notes tab, Add Note and call it Dates; unlike in Events, it does not ask for narrative form, just for Abbreviation (which I leave blank, since it is short enough), and Gedcom tag. This is going to be non-standard, so start with an underscore, thus: _DAT

Then go to Preferences>Family View>Couple, add that new field and drag it into the desired position among the other fields in the View. Hope this helps - Michael.

I did that but I still can't see it. Will it only work on new additions to Reunion even though I have checked, Apply to all family views? I don't know what I am doing wrong. I closed out Reunion and opened it and even rebuilt caches. Still not there. I am missing a step or something. Maybe a brain cell...

Ok. I have figured it out! Brain cell regenerated!

One more question: How do you show more than one line of what you entered as Dates? I have just one line visible even though I expanded the Dates field in Preferences. It would be nice to be able to see more than one line and I think you did that in your example. Thanks again for being so patient with me, Michael.

Judy, you have me puzzled. Maybe you know this already, but in Family View if you move the cursor into the area I have coloured in my illustration, it changes to a little horizontal line with up/down arrows; with this you can drag the children section down to give more space above. If that doesn't do it, then perhaps you set up 'Dates' as a Fact field? It should be a Note. Incidentally, I use a field called 'Notes' but set up as a Fact precisely because I want to limit it to one line.

Thank you, Michael. I did know about moving the children section down. I think the real problem is that I want too much info visible! It is going to require me tweaking it. And I did set up the Dates as a Note. I am thinking I like the idea of a one-liner for a Note. You have so many good ideas!! Thanks again. As for puzzling you, my husband says that I puzzle him too. ;-)
