    New "Read Only" feature on DropBox

    DropBox has a new feature:
    "Dropbox Basic users now have the ability to set folders as read-only, a feature previously available only to paying customers. That means free users will be able to share their files with other people without allowing them to make changes."

    I allow another family member to access my Reunion family file via DropBox, but I'm always concerned that they might make changes to my file (or worse). Would this new "read only" feature of DropBox prevent them from making changes?

    Looking at the Dropbox site, it appears that if you "create a shared link" as against a "share a file" then;

    "---people don't need a Dropbox account to view your file.

    Regardless of which you use, people can:

    view files
    comment on files
    download a copy of files
    But, people can't edit the original files in your Dropbox."

        My suspicion is that this feature does not change anything with your Reunion files with regard to preventing someone from editing your Reunion stuff. And, in fact, if applied to the files may prevent Reunion from working properly.

        We will have to wait for Leister staff to test and tell us.
