Relatives

I'm using relatives to check the sons and daughters for a father. He has tons of relatives listed. I don't necessarily want to eliminate them (uncheck) but would like the immediate family higher up the food chain. (If I uncheck chances are I'll use again and not remember I did that until I display the results).

Children
Grandparents
then all the others. Easier than scrolling through over 200 names to reach his kids. I'm trying this method to show all the kids even though it doesn't show their mother (multiple wives). Trying to determine a) am I missing kids; b) are they attached to proper parent(s).

Well, the way to do what you want to do is to do what you don't want to do: unclick the cousins box so that only direct ancestors are shown. Clicking and unclicking the various buttons is what makes this a more useful tool; I don't see any reason to avoid it.

You could also mark only the people you're interested in and restrict the Relatives list to marked people only.

If you are interested in a list that provides quick access to a person, their spouses, and children, you can use the "Person menu" that pops up if you click the little downward-pointing triangle at the upper-right edge of their person button (see picture). Drag down to "Spouses & Children" and you can see all their spouses and children, and can go directly to any one of them.

You can get to the same menu by right-clicking (or control-clicking) anyone's name in the sidebar.
