    Source Usage Report

Is there some limit as to how large the source usage report should be?

At this stage of my work 305 sources show in my database. None of these sources show as unused. I'm fairly sure that this means there is at least one person in the database attached to each source.

In my current work with sources, I am approaching each source from the attachment side. But I wish to know how many other people use that source. The Source Usage Report as generated by Reunion stops at Source 290. Yet, working from the individual people, I show Source 291 and 297.

The work-around would be to generate the usage for each of the missing sources and I will do so if I need to. But can anyone tell my why my Source Usage Report stops short of the visible number of sources in use?

How do you know? Do you show nothing in the list when you click "Unused" under Type at the top of the source list?

My source list shows 5079 sources, but the Summary at the bottom shows 33 sources unused (thank you for that; until this question, I didn't even know about the Source Usage report). I can however, select Unused under Type at the top of the Source list and display the 33 sources that aren't being used. Now all I have to do is click on each one of those Unused sources and track down the name and the reason for the disconnection.

In answer to your original question, I don't know the limit for the size of the Source Usage report, but I haven't reached it, and I'm sure you have a long way to go before you need to concern yourself with that limit. I don't know why your usage report stops short of your total number, but my guess is you have some skipped numbers in the list.

Here's a hint: Backup your file, then with the file in Family view. Go to File -> Rebuild Cache files. That may clean up some glitches that you didn't know you had.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, I checked for unused sources. Also, all 305 show in order in the sidebar. Originally there had been more sources (I know this from outside Reunion), but when sources were deleted, those holes were filled up.

Thank you for the Rebuild Cache Files suggestion. I will try that.

        SOLVED!
Thanks to the suggestion that I rebuild caches which came from jBastin. I now have a complete listing of the over 4000 connections to my 305 sources. This new report has more information in it than I knew I could ask for

When I used File>Rebuild Cache from Family View, it appears to only rebuild caches for one family --- is it possible to do a universal rebuild cache files? If I choose the family file for person 1&2, will that accomplish the goal?

            Re: Source Usage Report

File -> Rebuild Cache Files... rebuilds all of the cache files for the currently open family file. If you have more than one family file you will need to do this for each file, one at a time.

Note that generally you only need to rebuild caches if something seems amiss -- such as an entry not showing in the People sidebar, or an issue similar to what Sue reported here. It's not something that you should need to do regularly as Reunion will handle updating the caches as needed in most cases.

Thanks Mark - I confused family view with family file. I recognize now that family file is all the data for the family. Good to know that Reunion is working in the background to keep the records in good order.
