Does Reunion support GEDCOM BET and AND? I can't seem to see how to input date ranges...

Yes, you can put "bet 1920 and 1930" into a Reunion date field.

Search for "custom dates" in the help manual and there's a section giving examples.

Thanks. I see all the examples. But when I type a date in Reunion wants me then to add a custom date to sort it from. Shouldn't it be automatically understood?

The date you type in is the date that will be used for sorting. Would you want Reunion to assume that "Between 1920 and 1930" should be sorted as 1920? As 1930? As 1925?

It's up to you to choose, because there's no way for Reunion to "automatically" know which you'd prefer.

I thought that GEDCOM supports BET and AND and had a standardised way of handling them?

Yes it supports the presence of such dates in a GEDCOM file and allows you to move dates of that type to other software, but there is no mechanism for the GEDCOM file to convey what you want the date to be sorted by - so for example GEDCOM has no mechanism that would allow it to convey what order these actual events occurred in

            bef 1920
            bet 1920 and 1925
            bet 1922 and 1925
            aft 1922
            bef 1925

This is why Reunion allows you to set the custom date sorting date, so you get to decide what order these events might sensibly have occurred in.

Some software attempts to do this for you - e.g. TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding) would sort these based on

            bef 1920 = 31 Dec 1919 (represented as 1919-12-31)
            bet 1920 and 1925 = represented by 1920-00-00
            bet 1922 and 1925 = represented by 1922-00-00
            aft 1922 = represented by 1923-00-00
            bef 1925 = 31 Dec 1924 (represented by 1924-12-31)
