    spinning time ball

I've noticed of recent when I do data entry or list of people (and other stuff), I get the spinning time ball (it's not the Apple beach ball but looks more like a clock). File size is 50.2mb (26,000 records). Assume that means pics are in the file, which I thought Reunion doesn't do, thought it was only pointers. Is that why?

I did the rebuild cache files already.

Reunion stores thumbnails of the images in the file, it does not store the original images. These thumbnails should not cause the problem you're seeing.

Do you usually keep the People List window open when doing data entry?

Also, do you have "Identify relationships 'on-the-fly'" enabled? You can find this setting in the Relatives sidebar by clicking the Change button.

Yes, I often have the People List open, find the person, then just don't bother clicking the red dot to close. When using sort by person ID, I'm more apt to close to let it refresh as I enter records.
Didn't find the "Identify relationships 'on-the-fly" but don't use Relatives so if off by default, should be still off.

Ok - open the People list and click the Sorting Options icon (3 bars of increasing size) at bottom-left, the select "Manual Sort" from the menu that opens. What fields are selected for the three options (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary) there?

          Thanks,
When doing data entry sort is on People ID Number, Last Name, First Name. Otherwise Last Name, First Name. Most times, the former is used.

Ok -- keep the People List window closed for a while and see if you still get the spinning time ball. If you do, try saving a backup copy of the family file using:

File -> Save a Backup Copy...

And see if the problem persists with the backup. Let us know the results.

This statement got me to thinking and I *finally* solved the 5-second delay after EVERY SINGLE FIELD is entered or changed in a source. When the sources are set to limit by some criterion (e.g., when I told it to only find census records from 1930) I have the 5-second delay after every changed field as it goes through and researches. Now, I must say that it seems like bad behavior to redo the search while the source is being edited, but at least I can now avoid this problem! (And now I'm going to turn on the option to identify relatives on the fly and see if that actually has a noticeable effect--it was turned off to make sure I was as streamlined as possible.)

I think you'll find it does. Also, if you are showing a list of marked people, that list is recalculated after each entry.

Thanks riwebb for sharing your experience with editing source fields. I have had the same problem for some time now, though on my mac mini the delay between fields is about 3 seconds and I currently have 5947 sources. I was preparing to report it as a bug, when I found I could not recreate the problem on demand. I couldn’t figure out what was different when it was fast vs. when it was slow. Now you have answered that. Now I can recreate the problem if the Sources list window is being filtered; I even tried the same filter you mentioned. But when it is set to Any Type, Any Field and no search argument, there is no delay in tabbing to, or clicking in, the next field to be updated. I wish I could remember which Reunion update I had when I first experienced this. I am currently on 11.0.11. MacOS is 10.12.5, but the problem also happens on my old MacBook that runs OS 10.7.5, but the same version of Reunion. I found that I still have a copy of Reunion 10.0.6 and a Reunion-10 familyfile so I ran the test under those conditions and there was no delay! The oldest edition of Reunion-11 I still have is 11.0.8 but the problem still exists there, so the “bug” was introduced sometime after 10.0.6 and at least by 11.0.8. So unless Leister Productions responds to this issue here, I will submit it to tech support.

I checked Help but only found setting for Relatives, not how to turn off. I don't use it but did change default 255 to 3.

Unchecked 9 marked people (did previously have quite a few) and some change in spinning occurred. But, what if I do need to have quantity of names checked?
