    Order of Marriage (Spouses)

I have an Ancestry.com account and maintain that database as my prime depository of information and for conducting research.

I like Reunion's tools for producing charts and books.

So, I periodically export the file in GEDCOM format and then import into Reunion. All goes very well and I am pleased with the results.

However, spouse order will sometimes get changed (dates and names are correct, etc. ) and I get a "first married" narrative for the wrong spouse. I can go into the Edit Suppose dialog and fix the order but that is tough/impossible to catch for 1000's of profiles.

However, birth order of children will get scrambled in charts and books. The dates are correct but what happens is that the names somehow get swapped in the Family File Page and that order will override the date order.

So, I try to find all of these (impossible) and fix them in Reunion before printing a chart or make in book or creating a Record.

All help and suggestions welcomed, please!

Well, children order is easily handled.

    Change -> Sort Children ->

set options (e.g. "All families", what to do when there's no birthdate)

    click "Sort"

I don't know of any way to sort all marriages, though.

I doubt that this is a complete solution to your problem, but if you go to a specific person in Family view, click on the little triangle in the TRH corner for the drop down menu and select Spouses/Edit spouses, you can reorder them manually.

Obviously this is not a global sort, nor does it automatically put them in date order…

Thank you for your suggestion. I am aware of this solution and started down that path but there are 275 + marriages to be checked and I would have to do that every time I exported to make a corrected copy. That is just not feasible. =)

I can open the exported gedcom file and examine but doesn't make a lot of sense to me on marriage dates.

My thanks to the Staff at Reunion for providing a manageable work-around.

            1. Mark the members of the group that you are interested in
            2. Use FIND and select from the drop down With Multiple Spouses.
            3. Then from the resulting sidebar, the folks in question will be visible with a check mark
            4. Click on each one at a time. (at least you will capture the multiple spouse people and not have to manually hunt them down.)
            5. From the resulting Family View click on the "red arrow" for multiple spouces and click on the EDIT option.
            6. Click on the SORT button to straighten out the order.

The request for a button for spouse sorting (like the one for child sort) has been noted.
