Uploading a Web Project to a Website

i'm looking to build a family archive website on which one page will be the cover page to a Reunion web project. I started the process on One&One's WebBuilder Plus, only to find that there was no method of loading a web project folder, as their system will only allow the upload of individual files. Does anyone know which website builders/design software will easily facilitate the upload/import of a Reunion web project?

I used Sandvox to create a website which is hosted on A2 Hosting. I made separate web projects for my mother's family and for each of my wife's parents. Unfortunately, when I tried to update my father's family the folder got converted from public to private and I haven't figured out how to fix it yet.

Hi Bob, Many thanks. I'll have a look at Sandvox. The key issue seems to be whether it'll accept a web folder from Reunion. If I can ascertain that before purchasing, I will. Did you incorporate the folder into a pre-created website, or initiate the website with the Reunion folder?

I have used 1and1 hosting... you have to go a bit old school and know how to FTP the information into the site. All you need to do is simply download a free software package called Filezilla. Once you have that you can use the FTP Protocol to load your web project into 1and1 it's really quite simple once you get the hang of it.

The web builder plus is kind of a website editor... you can make a sub folder off of your main HTML directory load the data from Reunion and then link into it like...

http://mysite/reunion-data and it will load.

You may or may not have noticed this. The link below your apology statement has the suffix as ".htm" instead of ".html" and this may make the difference because the file name does end with ".html"...

Thanks Allen. That's so frustrating. I had done exactly that and got my folder to my web space via FTP. I couldn't work out how to get it from my web space to my website so I called the 1&1 web builder helpdesk, and they said it was impossible! Unfortunately I have now cancelled the account and trashed the half built site. Oh well. You should get a job with One & One.

I use Reunion to create our family tree files, use TextWrangler to modify the first page (Index) and then Cyberduck (free) as an FTP to upload our family tree to a hosting service (Bluehost).
Within Blue host, and within the Public_HTML folder, created a folder called Familytree and uploaded the Reunion folders & files to that folder.
Following these steps, this is what a link to your family tree would look like.
http://www.(insert your domain name here)/Familytree/INDEX.HTM

Please note that when you have Reunion create the web project, pay attention to the suffix of the INDEX file. I used HTM versus HTML. Really not sure what the difference is! Hope this helps.

An .HTM file and a corresponding .HTML file are identical except for the extensions.

Some operating systems and servers don't allow the use of a four-letter extension (.HTML) and for those you need to use .HTM

Hi,

I saw your information on sending a Reunion Web project to Bluehost. I have previously used http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com but is has been shut down since last year.

Cann you give me some guidelines on how to get started? I can easily FTP my Web Project. But need to know which of BlueHost's plans will work for me, etc., etc.
