Just to clarify: you can also copy/paste, or import a GEDCOM file of data from Ancestry.com.

Note that in order to get data from Ancestry.com to Reunion via GEDCOM, it needs to be included in one of your Ancestry.com Family Trees.

      Re: Search the Web Function

Firstly I want to give a big thank-you for the tremendous support from the makers of Reunion and the user-base who respond to the questions posted on this site.

      And now for my question;
I use 'Newfoundland's Grand Banks" http://ngb.chebucto.org/ for a lot of my research, would this site be a good candidate for inclusion in the web search for Reunion 10? If so how does one go about adding it?

      Thanks
      Hayward...

Yes and no. Ancestry.com or any other sites (like ReunionTalk) have an active log that contains the login and password of currently active logins. We'll return to this....

When you first go to a site that has a password entry, IF you get the dialog asking you whether or not you want to save this password. Clicking Never will result in no more questions for that site. Clicking Not Now will result in your being asked again during a future visit. Clicking Save puts the site name, login and password in the Keychain program on your Mac. Whenever you return to a site AND the information is in your Keychain, the Keychain will populate the login and password fields for you.

If you click a Remember Me button at a website, it creates a cookie in your favorite browser on your computer that serves the same function.

The return...... Whether it's Keychain or a cookie, your browser submits the login/password and the destination site matches that incoming information to their active login list. Boom! You are in. If one of your nerd friends talks about a handshake, the above is a general description of that.

Note that I didn't specify Mac. Same things work on Windoze. They have a utility that does the same things as Keychain. And cookies are cookies. I don't recall the name.

          Re: Search the Web Function

          Hello,

It has been a while, since this thread was active. Nevertheless, I'm pleased to inform the users of the Search the Web Function, of an available work-around to deal with web pages, which only support http-POST.

Thomas Froitzheim, supporter of reunion-de.de, has developed and documented the necessary steps to create Reunion Web Search Adapters.
You can download his document from the German-language forum Reunion-DE, which supports users of the localized version of Reunion 10.0.6: https://reunion-de.de/Reunion_Web_Se...apter_1.01.pdf

Such property lists, which were developed for use with German web pages, are made available to the Leister team for review and testing.

If you can't wait to put his hands on some of these new plist-files, please contact https://www.reunion-de.de or write to info@reunion-de.de

          Regards
          Reiner
