Arrow Keys to move back and forward between Marked People

I'm really missing the simple old left and right arrow keys to move between marked people as has been possible in previous versions of Reunion about since forever.

Command-Shift-[ or Command-Shift-] is not exactly one hand friendly while the other hand is on the mouse/trackpad perhaps unchecking some of those marked cards as you flip through them.

As far as I can see, the arrow keys don't do anything if the focus isn't in the search box, so why can't they still flip through the marked cards?

I also greatly miss the arrow keys for moving backwards and forwards between marked people. I have tried to get around the problem, but it is so uncomfortable that I have gone back to Reunion 9, as they are really essential for my method of working. Any hope of them being re-introduced in the near future?

I too miss this feature, but I have found a way to get somewhat similar behavior. If you use Find to search for all marked people, you can then navigate the results sidebar using the up and down arrow keys. It's not quite the same (the results list is not live-updated, so it will take you to people who have subsequently been unmarked) but at least for me, it's better than the new command keys!

There is a new feature in the sidebar that will keep an updated list of marked (or unmarked people.) From the popup menu at the top of the sidebar, choose Results -> Marked People.

Everything else Brad said above still applies.

Very cool. In addition to the simple use already mentioned, this allows you to dynamically filter the results of one search (the results list) based upon the results of another search (saved to the marked set). You could do something similar in R9 with a "Person Marked: Yes" condition, but you couldn't turn it on or off dynamically like this. This is a great feature!

I see you can also select Results -> Unmarked People, too. Excellent.

I had noticed the new feature in the sidebar for keeping an updated list of marked or unmarked people, but it is in alphabetical order only. I can make a list of marked people and sort by family ID or any other order and then save the marked set. However, it is a nuisance working with this list when going through thousands of records as it means double-clicking on each name to get the family view, instead of simply clicking on the arrows as in previous versions of Reunion. A sort function in the sidebar would be fine or the ability to recall a sorted marked list in the sidebar.

You can also see the list of marked people in the List window. And, in the List window, the list can have multiple columns with different fields and you can sort by any field.

Yes, I had realized this. It was the other possibility that I mentioned in my previous message. It is not as convenient as the arrows in previous versions as you have to move up and down with the keyboard arrow keys and then double-click to open each family view. For a few records, it is not a problem, but it is a nuisance with thousands.

But none of these other ways of getting at the same thing are as simple, or as ingrained as simply pressing the right and left arrow keys to flip through the marked cards.

As long as the focus is not on the Search box at top right, there doesn't seem to be anything that the arrow keys do that precludes them being used as they've been used in the past to flip through the marked cards.

What am I missing, and why can't this be reinstated as it has been in Reunion since forever?

I agree 100% and am surprised that not more people have expressed their concern. Although I bought version 10 as soon as it was released, I have returned to version 9, for the time being, as I need these arrow keys to flip between marked cards. I am not very happy at having to do this as I would prefer to use the latest version.

I would like to add myself to the list of those who would VERY MUCH like this facility to be restored. While it is possible to Find Marked and step through the people in the found sidebar, it's not as convenient, requires more steps and is, for me, less intuitive.

And of course if you should need the sidebar for something else, your list disappears!

These will return in the next free update, 10.0.2 (coming soon).

In the meantime, you can use these shortcuts to move between marked people (these will remain)...

                        Command-Shift - [
                        Command-Shift - ]

These are difficult to type one handed for someone using the mouse or trackpad with their left hand, and impossible for someone using the mouse or trackpad with their right hand.

Thank you very much, that is really good news. The shortcuts would be very useful, but I use a Swiss French keyboard and haven't found the equivalent shortcuts unless I change to a US keyboard.
