    File Size

After upgrading to 10.0.1, my family file size increased from 7.1 MB to 43.7 MB (7718 people). Why is this? Also, there no longer seems to be an option to save a compact copy. Did that go away in Version 10?

Do you have preferred pictures in your Family File? Most likely the increase in file size is due to the fact that the Family File (which is actually a package now) contains thumbnails for these pictures.

If you locate your Family File, then CTRL+Click/Right-Click on it and select "Show Package Contents" you can see the thumbnails folder with all the images it contains.

This has been replaced with the "Save a Backup Copy..." option.

Mark, thanks for the reply. Yes, I see that, now. I saved a backup and that package is only 14 MB. If I look at the package contents for both, the original thumbnails folder has 1508 items and the thumbnails folder for the backup version has only 319 items. What's the difference here?

First, let me note I was wrong in my original reply -- thumbnails are created for all of the pictures, not just the preferred pictures.

The backup only includes thumbnails for the preferred pictures, where the original includes thumbnails for all the pictures.
