    Advice on when to upgrade

    Hi all,
I'm very new to Reunion, having converted from another program. My source info was the only thing I had trouble with when changing over, so I bit the bullet and decided to do them manually (Use it as a way to make them more uniform for better gedcom export) Its been a big project but worthwhile as I've learnt a lot about the correct way to record sources.
I've completed most of them, I'm now down to sources for 200 people.
I'm eligible for the free upgrade to Reunion 10 which I'm thrilled about, but was wanting some advice on when to do it. Should I finish inputting the sources first, using Reunion 9, or start using Reunion 10 straight away and complete my sources using it? Has Reunion 10 made source recording easier? Is there anything about Reunion 10 workflows with sources that could help?
Over the last 2 months I've relied on this site a lot, I've always found great answers to almost any question, any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Advice on when to upgrade

With all the changes in V10, I've found the workflow with sources has remained fairly consistent. i.e.. Cmd-R will paste your previous source citation, Cmd-S will bring up the Source window for adding/editing sources.

With a free upgrade, go for it. I purchased a paid upgrade, and am overall very happy with the new version. Still some quirks between v9 and v10, but not enough to keep me from advising you go to v10.

Also, importing my database from V9 to V10 was smooth as well. Like any upgrade, backup your v9 file first.

Agree with the other responder who recommends upgrading to version 10 immediately. Best to start building familiarity with the new features, controls and capability right away, instead of with the earlier version (as great as it is). I also had no trouble converting my data from v9 to v10 (with 18,656 people; 820 sources; and 1719 linked multimedia files in my main family file). Minor differences in ways of displaying information have been well explained in the built-in help manual. So far the new version seems stable and without any glitch.

The beauty of upgrading to v10 is that you can still use v9 if you find you are more comfortable with it. The upgrade of your v9 file to v10 leaves your v9 family file untouched. My upgrade went very smoothly and frankly I like the display options for sources in v10 a little better. You have nothing to loose with the upgrade.

Curiously, the interface is now less consistent. Cmd-N doesn't bring up the source number entry box. It doesn't do anything but beep at you. What's that all about?

I don't know what you're describing here. I'm assuming you're talking about Edit Person and wanting to enter a source by number. In Reunion 9, that was Shift+Command+N. In Reunion 10 it's exactly the same.

You're right, of course. I failed to noticed that Cmd-Shift S now brings up Sources in the right sidebar rather than the separate window. What I did notice was that Cmd-S now brings up the source window, but inconsistent that Cmd-N didn't similarly open the source number entry window. The changes are challenging my ability to use R10, substantial is the re-learning.

So why doesn't Cmd-N open that window when it appears it could, having no other function in the edit person mode?
