Cycle through windows on French Canadian keyboard

    Hi.

When on the Family View window, I click on the proper icon under the People sidebar to get the List - People view. I notice in the Window Menu that there is a command to cycle through windows (Command - `). But this command combination does not work on French Canadian keyboards. I tried every possible Command combination, without any success (I simply found that Command-L brings up the list, but I still haven't found any command to revert back to the Family View).

In fact, I think that any Command (or Control, or whatever) combination involving non-letter characters is likely not to function on keyboards other than English, because the characters are not the same and/or are not positioned in the same place.

    Do you have a solution?

    Hi,

What version of OS X are you using?

This is an OS X default key combination, but you may be able to change it in:

System Preference -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts

    Under "Keyboard and Text Input".

I know this is available in 10.6 and newer, but I'm not sure if it's the same in prior versions of OS X.

    Hope that helps!

      Hi, Mark.

As indicated in my signature, I'm using MacOSX 10.7.4.

The problem is that non-English keyboards are configured in a way that is quite different from English keyboards. So, "Command-`" is obtained by hitting Command-Alt-semi-colon.

Here are captures of different keyboard setups for a French Canadian keyboard:

The preference settings I mentioned allow you to change this keyboard shortcut to something else (e.g. something that is easier to use on your French Canadian keyboard).

I don't have a Mac with 10.7 available to me at the moment to check, but the keyboard shortcut preferences I mentioned are present in 10.6 and the 10.8 beta, so they are probably available to you in 10.7, too.

Here's the preference window in Lion. If you double-click directly on the Cmd-`, you can enter a new key combination.
