    Re: sorting children

It sounds like what the original poster is really asking for is an option to have "Button View" on the child section of the Family View display the buttons in row order rather than column order. The sorting is fine, it's just that he is trying to read across instead of down.

Personally, I MUCH prefer List View to Button View for the children. Not only is the order unambiguous, but you can fit more data and more children in less space, and it is easier to visually scan down any data field. (My database tends to have large families. There are 460 couples with 9 or 10 children entered, 321 couples with 11 to 13 children entered, and 59 couples with 14 or more children entered.)

I find it a bit hard to balance the MacBook and another screen on my lap :-)

I added a 2nd screen to my MacBook Pro but I only get the same screen on both. Could you elaborate and explain how this is done to get 2 separate programs running with each on a separate screen?

Go to System Preferences. Go to Displays.

          First, un-check "Mirror Screens".

Then arrange the two screens as you would like them, sensitive to your preferences as to the location of the Program Dock. More at genealogyhowto.com.

            Delbert,

Go to the apple menu, System Preferences. In the ensuing page, click on Hardware, Displays. In the Display window, select the Arrangement tab near the top. Look for the "Mirror Displays" option, and un-check it. That should take care of the same display on both screens.

In the middle of the window, there should be two rectangles, one with a white band at the top. The two rectangles represent your two screens, and shows which screen is on the "left" and which is on the "right". The rectangle with the white band at the top represents the "master screen" (my terminology). You can change the arrangement by clicking on one rectangle and moving it to the other side. You can change the master relationship by clicking on the white band and moving it to the other rectangle.

Thanks to both of you for the reply. I'll try it after my granddaughter finishes the Miss Tennessee Pageant next week. We are on edge right now.
