    Family View Preferences

I have repeatedly tried different ways to set my preferred view and nothing works.

I can close it and then shut down Reunion and reopen and my views all go back to the basic set up. Nothing seems to work.

I have read and reread the instructions and I don't see where I'm doing anything wrong.

Also, when I first open up my reunion and set up my family view preferences the children under my family view will stay with what ever family I click on.

The work around that seems to work is to click on Charts and then switch back to family view and then the children seem to work and will change to what ever family I click on.

    Help
IMac 17in. Ver 10.6.8, using Reunion Ver 10.0.2

    Hi Myron,

I'm sorry to hear Reunion is not remembering your family view preferences. However, I am unable to duplicate the problem you are seeing.

Please let us know which specific preferences are not being remembered.

Also, it may be helpful to know what steps we should take when trying to duplicate the problem. (I.e., specifically, what do you click on first, second, third, etc.)

Thanks for any additional information you can provide:-)

      Re: Family View Preferences

I just reopened my family file and once again its has reverted to the family view preferences that I don't use.

I open up Reunion Preferences go to Family View and have to reset the Miscellaneous, Parents, Couple, Children views and then close them to get the view I want.

The Family Views box on the left is always blank.

I change what I want in the Miscellaneous, then the Parents, Couple, Children and then close the Preferences panel.

I then click on a grandparent and/or anybody with children and no children appear.

I then click on tree view and then return to Family View and all the children show up.

There should be a save-as family view button. Then you would know that those views that you just set up had been saved and what you named that view. Seems like a common sense solution to me.

I don't know why you are seeing what you are. However, I would like you to try something...

        1. Open your family file, choose File -> Save A Backup Copy and click Save.

        2. Then, close the original file and open the copy.

        3. Next, make the necessary changes in the Family View Preferences window, just as you did before. Move the Preferences window to the side so you can see the changes being applied to the family view as they are being made.

        4. Then, close the preferences window when you are finished.

        5. Finally, quit Reunion 10 and re-open that same family file.

        Did Reunion remember the changes?

If so, I recommend you continue to use that copy as your main family file from now on.

I find it odd that there are no family views listed here. I wonder if that may be a cause, or symptom, of your problem.

Myron, if after trying the steps suggested by Deb above and that still does not fix your problem, I suggest also trying the following:
In the Family View Preferences window, add a new family view and give it a name in the Family View box. Then make all your desired format changes to this view. Then close the Preferences window and quit Reunion. Now when you reopen your family file are you seeing your preferred view configuration?

That took care of the problem, all is well in Pine, CO now, thanks so much.
