    help.

I am new to Reunion but not Genealogy. I am certainly in a learning curve but can someone help me, please? how do you import individuals from one family file to another. I have my family file of 1300 people. and and import separate file with 3000 people. Also I created a report and tried to drop it in Dropbox to share with someone. Dropbox want accept anything for Reunion created as web folder. Using iMac running Mountain Lion.
    Thank you
P.S. should have bought this program years ago, better late than never.

    Re: help.

Before doing anything to either file, make copies of the files.

If the Gedcom has not been imported I would make a new Reunion file and import the Gedcom into the new file.

I would make a copy of the new file in Reunion by doing a save of this file in Reunion before making any changes.

Not knowing how many duplicate people you have in the two files I might mark all the people in the smaller file. After combining the two files I would make another copy of the combined data before doing anything.

We all make mistakes and it is easier to go back to a recent copy and resume work on the copy.

The two files can be combined by importing one Reunion database into the other.
After the merging of the two files I would proceed by bringing up a list of places. I would make changes to place names so that you have uniform place names before merging any people.

At this time I would bring up a list of all the people. As one goes down the list any duplicates in the now combined files can be spotted visually with the one set of names marked and mark duplicate people. You can unmark the people who do not have duplicates.

As you recognize duplicates and with both people marked then I would do a match and merge of the duplicate people. You will possibly have some birth dates similar but not matching.

I find that it is necessary to edit the two people so that the birth dates are the same. Then do a match and merge of the two people into one person.

Backup the database as you work through it.

If you have not, I would read the manual regarding doing the above procedures.

    Good Luck!

      Re: help.

thank you for the great advice. I will do it. I had imported the ged com file to a separate reunion file so now with your advice I can begin to put the two together.
Again they you for your response.
