Born to wife, adopted by husband?

"Their child is Julee Beth, born 11 July 1962 during Ella's previous marriage and adopted by Allyn." Allyn is Ella's 2nd husband.

How to record this? Julle Beth is both adopted, and not.

Since I don't know the name or anything of the first husband and Julee Beth is of the wife, I've left it looking as if Julle Beth is of the 2nd husband, too, with no reference to an earlier husband.

What I do is to add the first husband as "_1st husband" in the forename field - surname blank, and duplicate the child, changing the child status to adopted on the appropriate record.

    Specifically ...
Click on plus above Ella, and 'add New Spouse' using whatever format for the name that you decide on.
With person side bar visible, search for ",Julie Beth" {add surname before comma}.
Drag Julie Beth from side bar to the Children section of this first marriage.
When the pop-up appears click on 'Duplicate'.
Click on the triangle on Ella, select 'Edit spouse' & drag first husband above Allyn.
Go to family card for Allyn & Ella.
Click on the triangle on Julie Beth (in children area) and choose Child Status - set this to Adopted.

I fit Julee Beth's situation precisely. And I don't understand why you are trying to make something simple into a complicated solution. It doesn't matter that I was adopted by my mother's second husband. Her first husband is still and always will be my biological father.

I recorded myself in the normal way that I am the child of my biological parents. On both my Notes and my adopted father's Notes, I have noted that he adopted me (along with the date, court name, etc.).

Yes, I realize some families want this kind of information hidden, etc... but I think we need to tell it just like it happened.

I have to agree with Bob and have noted the same situation with myself, as Bob has done. Genealogy is the facts of life, don't try and hide it, just tell it as it is!
