    Starting a new file

I want to start a new file. The people in it will be new and also from my existing file. I waant to get the facts on the new folks before adding them to my old master file. Howw can I get people from the old fle, not all of them, just a few into the new file without having to enter them manually.

Several ways, however, if it was me, I'd 'mark' those I wished to put in new file, and export a gedcom to the desktop using just marked people. Then create a new file by using the gedcom. Then add your new people.

        Don't use GEDCOM.

You could do this two ways -

1 - make a duplicate of your family file and give it a new name. Then delete everyone from it that you do NOT want in the new file - you could Mark everybody, then Unmark those you want to keep and then delete the Marked Records

        or

2 - Mark everyone in your family file that you want to move to the new file. Then create a new empty clone of your family file. Close your family file and open the clone. In the Clone Import from another family file and choose your family file and import the Marked Cards only.
