    Creating your genealogy

Does anyone have any samples or suggestions on creating your genealogy? I am interested in creating a book or notebook and making several copies for family members. Do you have someone else print it, bring your created document and have it copied, do you send it to someone digitally to be printed and/or copied and, if so, do you have to save it as a pdf file or what format is preferred?

Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks. Loretta

    Re: Creating your genealogy

    Hi Loretta,

Generally when I make my books I run out Register Reports for my various branches (down from the earliest ancestor) and then use a page layout program (Adobe InDesign in my case - altho you could do it in Pages or MS Word) to insert photographs and caption them. Then I run it off in a set of PDF files which I upload to www.lulu.com and have it printed/bound. I'm pretty happy with the results!

One that I just completed is here:

You might search the archives of REUNION because this has come up more than once!

Look under "book" and see what you come up with. I thought that I had copied the URL of one of the discussions, but it did not copy out when I went to put it in this letter. Sorry!!

I just looked at the book and it's excellent--a labor of love and visually well-designed. Maybe you should give tutorials.

Hi, when I click on "Preview" under the book image in the Lulu website, I get a blank. I'm thinking I don't have the plug-in needed to see the image. I'm pretty sure I have Adobe Flash Player on my computer. Could it be that I need something else to see it?

I just tried the Firefox browser & the Lulu player came up! So, it's something I'm missing in Safari...any ideas for me?

By the way, the book looks awesome!

Probably you have Java disabled in Safari. (Under Preferences -> Security)

              Thank you!

It works on Safari on my MacBook Pro. But I do have Java enabled.

Thanks Dennis, however, I do have Enable Java, Enable JavaScript & Enable Plug-ins all checked in the Security section.

Worked ok for me with Safari, but you have to wait a considerable time to have the page load.

                    Loretta,
