    Finding unknown ancestors

    It's a common thing in US censuses to read "father born Kentucky, mother born Tennessee" or similar. Has anyone devised a method of searching amongst existing couples for matches for this sort of data, for people for whom one has no name?

    Wouldn't it be a good think to be able to search Couples by Events and Places?

    In Ancestry, in not others, you can search for last name (I'll assume you have that from the census), and father & mother b. in a particular state(s).

      Sorry, I should have been more specific. In my Vance file I have 20,000 Vances. I am liable to find an unattached Vance, follow him up as far as I can and find the birth places of his parents. But there's no really easy way to find a couple that matches that pattern in my Reunion file - which would help me make the connection.

        Using Find Anything, you can find persons with a Birth Place containing a given place name, and mark them (unmarking the family file first). Then you can rerun the Find Anything to find persons with the Birth Place containing the second place name AND # of Marked Spouses > 0.

        Find Anything with Marked sets is a very powerful tool.
