GedCom Tags
This past summer I switched from Legacy to Reunion. I am in the process moving the text of my events from the 'memo fields' where some do not fit, to individual 'note fields' as Reunion suggests. Now I have an event and a note field with the same name such as 'Military' or Obituary' or 'immigration' etc. What gedcom tags do I give the event & the note? If I use the same tag for an event and a note will all get imported into another program correctly if at some point I decide to move the data for whatever reason? If I need to use different tags how do I make them different and yet correct for the type of data being identified?
For example; if I have an event for an obituary giving the date and community where the obituary was printed and any other information I want in the event field and I use the OBIT tag. Then when I type the entire obituary in a note field and name that note field Obituary what gedcom tag do I use there? Can they both be OBIT? Will one move to the event field and one to the note field if I export the file to another program?
