Making Pedigree Charts for adoptive and biological ancestors

I have an ancestor who was adopted. At first I only knew her adoptive relatives, so put them in my Family File first. Later I found out the birth parents and added their ancestors, following directions to add the lady a second time in the Family File. That part works great. Now I want to make a pedigree chart from the biological parents back in time, but when I select the lady's family view of biological parents and ask for a Pedigree Chart, it makes the chart from her adoptive parents. How can I get Reunion to make the Chart from the biological parents?

Let's call your adopted ancestor "Gladys". It sounds like you have entered Gladys twice in your family file. The more usual way of doing this would be to have her entered only once, with two sets of parents. On her adoptive parents' family card, her child status would be "adopted".

You choose one set of parents to be the "preferred parents". Reunion will use the preferred parents to make charts or do reports. So to report on Gladys's biological ancestry, you'd set her biological parents to "preferred",and then you can set the adoptive parents to "preferred" and do the report again, this time tracing the adoptive ancestry.

If you wanted to, it would be easy to just merge your two Gladyses and then you'd have her only entered in your file once, with two sets of parents.

Right/Control-Click on the person in family view. Select Parents, then Edit Parents. Make the biological parents the Preferred Parents. Save this setting, and create the chart. This should yield the desired result.

Edit: Dennis beat me. If you have a duplicate person, he has the solution.

I didn't know about the Preferred Parents option. I tried it and it does enable be to choose either set of parents to make the Pedigree Charts. Thank you both for the help! Ann S.
