    Register Report

I tried to produce a register report for my mother's sister and husband. Following the directions in the online manual, I set all the fields the way I wanted them. But the button which I believe is the way to produce the report will not highlight. I have clicked on the button and I have also clicked on return.

I believe that I am using the new 10.0.6 version of Reunion, but the version number still says 10.0.1 in the "about window;" is this normal?

    Thank you for your help.

Do they have children? If there are no children, you can't produce a register report (or any report of descendants.)

The number in the About Window should be the version you're actually running. Perhaps you have more than one copy of Reunion 10 on your computer, and the wrong one is being opened, either directly or indirectly.

There was no living child; there was a still-birth or a miscarriage. if I fake that data will that give me the report?

I intend to work from this toward my own composition, so the faked info would not be permanent and would not be a problem.

If you enter a child, fake or not, you should be able to do a register report.

          Re: Register Report

Note that a Register Report is a form of DESCENDANT report, where the descendants are output in generation order, that is, all children, followed by all grandchildren, followed by all great grandchildren, etc. (This is in contrast to a Family History Report, which does a depth first tree traversal, showing all descendants of their first child, then all descendants of their second child, then all descendants of their third child, etc., recursively following the same pattern when listing the descendants of each child.)

So if you only have one generation of children for a couple, there is no real point in generating a Register Report or a Family History Report, since both are really intended for multiple generations of descendants. For only one generation, you might as well just print out a family group sheet with full notes.

Perhaps you were looking for one of the formats of ancestor reports?

            Re: Register Report

Thank you Dennis. I now have my report. In fact, this discussion prompted me to place the lost child into my aunt and uncle's page. My aunt once told me she had lost a child, but gave no details. I believe that this type of fact is important to record; now the unsupported fact is a part of Reunion (with a note that "my aunt told me" is the source).

Terri: I was using Reunion to jump-start a blog post about this couple who were so important to me in my growing up years. I printed out both the register and Ahnentafel reports and used these "narrative" forms to jump-start my composition. So I was borrowing a tool for a secondary use. Among other factors, starting from these reports will insure that my blog will have citations where they exist; showing what facts are verified and what facts exist in memory only.

I think citations belong in genealogy blogs as well as any other writings we produce.

Thank you both for you insight.
