    Reordering spouses

After choosing "Edit spouses..." in the pull-down menu (under "Spouses & Children"), I am unable to change the order of spouses by dragging -- the "Sort" works, but I don't have all the dates. There seems to be no way to grab the names. FWIW: The line when a name is highlighted is red (not blue as in the manual), if that makes any difference.

Similarly, I am also unable to do so on my iPad. Any help?

    Thanks!

That's odd - works for me. I just start dragging the second wife in the list and a darker horizontal line appears where it plans to insert her.

My highlighted line is blue. By the way, if you try to drag an unhighlighted line when you first come in, it won't work. Click on the name you want to move to highlight it, then you can drag it.

Thanks, but no joy -- the highlighted name will not budge (and no move-to line) appears. I'm beginning to wonder if the color has something to do with the situation; perhaps red indicates that it is somehow locked?

Is this the only place you see the red highlight color? Or for example do you also see red when you mouse over a string of text for editing?

I believe your red color reflects what is set as the "highlight color" in the Apple>SystemPreferences>Appearance window on your computer. You can change this to blue there if you choose but it shouldn't be causing your problem, to which I have no answer.

You were right about the preference setting, and I have now changed it from red to blue -- but I still can't grab/drag a spouse to change the order! Could the file itself be corrupted? Is there a way to "rebuild" it (without losing all my data)?

IIRC, an earlier version of Reunion used a similar "drag" method for reordering children for whom I did not know birth dates -- is that still available in R10?

It's finicky sometimes. As donworth added in his last sentence, first do a simple click on the spouse you want to move (even if it is already highlighted). Then click-and-drag the line to move it up or down.

I observe that sometimes if the line is already highlighted it won't move until you click on it to highlight it again. Other times it'll move right away. Seems to be a bug.

Thanks, but it makes no difference.

Yes. You have to go into "Batch Entry" in the "+ Children" button to do it. You also need to click on the surname to highlight and then click, hold & move the surname for the best way.

As for moving the spouse...I sometimes click to highlight & then click, hold & move TO THE RIGHT and then up or down to the position wanted...watching for the orange line.

OK, thanks -- I found that, but I am unable to grab/drag children (just like spouses).

Do Leister representatives ever get involved with addressing these forum questions? (I'm beginning to think that my file is somehow corrupted since none of the suggestions so far -- which seem to work for others -- have made any difference/improvement in my situation.)

They usually do, but you can email them directly with a question at help@leisterpro.com.

Art, I've had a similar problem where it seemed like at times it just refused to 'grab' the box with the name. Almost as if it required the pointer tip to be on a part of a letter, not just white area. I just tried it, and it's now working fine. Maybe recent system re-start fixed something. Have you tried that?

Yes, but still no difference. If this is such a fickle procedure (as the various replies seem to indicate), why hasn't Leister fixed it previously?

Believe me, as one of the oldies around here, that if it was a common problem, Leister would act fairly quickly to fix the problem. I have seen that happen time and again. I'm pretty sure that something odd is going on in your family file and that you should heed Terry's advice and contact their help desk. You will find some of the best help west of the Atlantic coast.
