    Multiple events in smart list

I was entering my census date in Notes but decided I'd like to make Census an Event instead. I found in Help that to show multiple entries for a recurring event for one person in family view, you need to use the smart list feature. I went into Family View preferences, clicked smart list events and entered Census four times figuring that would give me four Census fields in Family View - and it does - every single person has four blank Census fields. Then I went into my grandfather's record - in Events, Census showed up only once and I was expecting four empty Census fields. I used "add event"and entered the four censuses I have for him. But when I got back to Family View, the earliest census just shows up four times! When I go back to the Edit Person page, all four censuses are there.
    What am I missing?

Not sure why you want to go to so much trouble. On an Event screen for a person on the census, go down to add Event, scroll to "Census", click & click on "Add Event". This will give you a blank Census type. (You can click and drag it to any position in the list of events for that person) Fill in the information needed and add your Source info. If you want to add the same Census to another person in the household, click once on the beginning of the Census line to highlight it. Copy it (it will also copy the source info that goes with it). Go to the next person. Highlight the line you want the Census line to be under and Paste it. You can then change the Memo space info and Source detail info if needed.

Also, once you have put in a blank Census type, you will not need to add that Event again. Anytime you want a blank Census type, just click on any line in the event screen & then right-click to see a Smart list of any blank Events you have added.

Note: I don't have any of the Census Events showing on my Family View. I like to keep that clean with just some basic fields like Birth, Death, Occ., Educ. & Note. That usually leave plenty of space for all the children in large families.

Hope this is understandable and helpful. I don't know how to do a screenshot of the list that comes up when you right-click. I have 12 events in my Smart list.

Thank you for you help with this!! I did just as you suggested. And I no longer show Census events in my family view. What I really wanted was for the census events to show up in my family group sheets and I figured out how to do that.

When in Finder go to the Help Menu and enter "Screen Shot" without the quotes and you'll see several simple ways to take a screen shot.

You need to add the Census events to the Events page and, THEN, go into Preferences>Family View>General>Couple>Add Field>Smart List. Then all your Census entries should also show up on the Family View. However, it also shows all the other Events from the person's Events page. I haven't found any way to just put the Census events.

I haven't figured out how to get the Smart List into the Family Group Sheets. How did you do that?

          I hope I haven't mixed you up!

I don't think it was the Smart List that showed up on my Family Group Sheets - it was entering the individual events on the Edit Person Page. I'm not entirely sure though how I got the census to print on my Family Group Sheet!
I did like the suggestion NOT to show the census on the Family View - I'll try to figure out what exactly I did do....I think I'm in over my head.
