Unknown father

Bonjour,
I have an ancestor who had 3 children before she married, one for whom the father is mentioned, and 2 for whom the father is not known or not mentioned in the acts. How do I add only the mother ? or the existing mother and unknown father?

There will be other suggestions, but I sometimes use FNU (first name unknown) with a surname and sometimes LNU (last name unknown) with a first name; and my family file contains four persons recorded as LNU, FNU.

Personally, I just use ? for an unknown 1st &/or last name.

Thank you S and Michael for your suggestions. I already use question marks for other purpose, as when I know the person is married but I don't know yet the first or last name. For "out-of-wedlock " children I will use Michael's suggestion and the mention " not married" in Marriage field. This raises another question that I am posting " Search Child Status "
