Need to merge two gedcoms - mostly the same

Hi,

I now have two gedcoms of my family tree, with differences between them :-(. One is downloaded from TNG. The other is downloaded from Ancestry.com. I was hoping Reunion could compare them to let me merge them, tedious but true. I gather it doesn't have that functionality. FTM is supposed to, but Mac 3 import function doesn't work - a known issue. Any other ideas how I can get these into one merged gedcom?

Reunion won't compare records within a gedcom file, but you can import both gedcoms and then use Reunion's match and merge feature within Reunion. You might want to create a new empty file to do the import and experiment with the match and merge before bringing the data into a family file that matters to you.

Thanks. It looks like it does compare within a file, under File/Match & Merge People. I see what you're saying about start a fresh file and experiment by importing one, and then the other into the same file. Do you know a way to delete all the multimedia from a file in one fell swoop? I'd like to delete all those links in one file before the merge.

If you already have them imported into Reunion, you can export the first file as a Reunion family file without multimedia (it's an obvious option during the export), and then import the second family file into the exported version. If you want to do it with gedcom files exported from Reunion, there's an option to strip multimedia links there too.

Many thanks ... I'm in business :-) Impressed with how thorough Reunion's import was, not leaving things out as with other programs. Need to reorganize some things, but the info is there.
