creating reports with the preferred pictures

    Hello All,
I am just now having a problem creating reports with the preferred pictures. Even with the box checked, the pictures do not show in the reports. I have never had this happen before and so I am assuming that I have done something unwittingly. Any ideas?

    Hi Frank,

What word processor are you sending the reports to?

    Thanks,

Re: creating reports with the preferred pictures

      Hi Mark,
      I am using Microsoft Word.
And I should add that the document actually opens on my computer in "TextEdit" and then I have to drag it onto the Word icon for it to open in Word. I just tried it again and do not even get the option of opening in Word with the Register Report or Family History Report. So I am thinking that I might have reset something without realizing it, as I used to be able to do this.
      Thanks,
      Frank

Re: creating reports with the preferred pictures

        Hi Frank,

If you'd rather the report go directly to Microsoft Word, you can change that via:

Reunion -> Preferences... , Reports, Word Processor

You'll find a drop-down on the right where you can select your preferred word processor. If Microsoft Word isn't listed, select "Other..." then locate and select the Word application.

Then, try creating the report with Microsoft Word as the Destination and see if the problem with the pictures persists. If it does, go to:

Reunion -> Preferences... , Reports, RTF

And uncheck "Create .rtfd files when needed", if it's checked, and also make sure "Embed PICT format" is not checked (this option is enabled when "Create .rtfd files when needed" is not checked).

Re: creating reports with the preferred pictures

          Hi Mark,

I have done each thing you suggested and I still get an RTF report created. It does not open the report, just an icon on my desktop. If I drag and drop the icon onto the Word icon in the dock it THEN will open a WORD report with pictures. Is that what I should expect? I had expected the document to open directly on my desktop.

I should mention that this is different from what it was doing before.

          Thanks for your help,
          frank

Getting an RTF file is normal, that's the format the report gets saved in.

It does not open the report, just an icon on my desktop.
What do you have selected as the Destination when creating the report? Is it set to the word processor you selected in the first step of my previous post?

            Thanks,

It does, this should cause the report to open in Word once it's finished being created.

Please open a Console (from /Applications/Utilities) and try creating a report with the Destination of Microsoft Word, let me know of any messages that appear in the Console when you do.

                Thanks!

Mark, sorry about the last messages. I get no new messages when I try to create the report. What I DO get is an icon of an rtf document. When I try to open it has NO pictures, however if I drag and drop it onto the WORD icon, it opens as a WORD document with pictures. That just didn't seem right to me, does it to you?

Also the document has headings for CONTENTS and INDEX but no data.

I am thinking I am doing something wrong, your thoughs?

                    Thanks,

It sounds like it could be right. If you open it via double-clicking it will probably open in TextEdit, which doesn't support in-line images (instead, you need to use RTFD files for TextEdit). MS Word does support in-line images, so them appearing when you open it in Word is normal given that the document was created using the method of including images that Word supports.

Also the document has headings for CONTENTS and INDEX but no data.
You probably have index and table of contents codes enabled, meaning the contents of these sections need to be generated after the report has been opened in your word processor. You can disable this feature by going to:

Reunion -> Preferences... , Reports, Index

And unchecking "Insert 'index' codes" and "Insert 'table of contents' codes". With these options turned off you will get an Index with data, but the Table of Contents will be excluded.

I am thinking I am doing something wrong, your thoughs?
I don't believe you're doing anything wrong, we just need to determine why the document isn't automatically opening in MS Word. That's what we need to focus on right now.

                      Please go back to:

Reunion -> Preferences... , Reports, Word Processor

And let me know what path is shown under the drop-down menu that appears on the right (it should be something like "/Applications/MS Office/Word.app" or similar).

                      Thanks,

To reply, there is no "drop down menu" on the right. Rather under the box to select the word processor is "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Microsoft Word" Is that helpful?

                        Thanks again,

                          Hi Frank,

The box is the drop-down menu I was referring to, if you click on it a menu should open.

under the box to select the word processor is "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Microsoft Word"
Are you currently using Office 2004 or have you upgraded to a new version of Office?

Mark, The only thing that shows in the drop down menu are the available word processors and "Other" for searching, no "path."

My version of WORD for Mac 2011, is: 14.4.2 (140509)
