Easy Way to Line Up Boxes Vertically?

    Hello,

I have been moving boxes around, adjusting the number of boxes on a page.

Is there any way to easily or automatically line up adjacent boxes vertically and also have the same amount of space between them, rather than moving them individually? I know how to select a group of them to move boxes together.

    Thanks, Carol

You can vertically align boxes by selecting all the boxes you want to align (Click-Drag or Shift+Click) and then choosing:

Object -> Align -> Left or Right (whichever side you want to align them on.)

As for the spacing between the boxes, you'll need to handle that manually.

Started putting together an answer on this, but found that Mark had beaten me to it after submitting my reply.

To build on his answer, a subtle point is that if you start with boxes that are aligned and want to move things around while keeping that alignment, you can start dragging the object then hold down the shift key to constrain it to the position opposite the movement (i.e., if you start dragging downwards, holding the shift key down will keep the object in the same left-right position it started at).

Regarding keeping even spacing, it's a bit easier to eyeball things when the grid is turned on. One trick to use is to create a rectangle of appropriate dimensions, and then move it around as needed to gauge the spacings in different places.
