    Common ancestor?or not?

Using Relative Chart for myself and my wife, if you go far enough back, you find some common ancestors; when I click on Common Ancestor, it shows only us. Probably something very simple, but I seem to have missed something somewhere. Help!

Hmm. I'm not sure why you are seeing what you are. However, please try this...

Open your family file to your "family view." (I.e., this is where you and your wife are in the center beside each other.)

    Then, choose "Find."

Look in the "Find relationship between two people" section and you should see your name as Person 1 and your wife's name as Person 2.

    Click the "Find Relationship" button.

If Reunion finds a common ancestor, that person's name (or the couple's names) will be shown below.

To go to the family view of the common ancestor, click the arrow to the right of the common ancestor's name.

To create a chart showing that relationship between you and your wife, click the "Create Chart" button.

I hope you find this information helpful:-)

A common ancestor is one person (or a couple) from whom two people have descended. (I.e., an easy example would be to find the relationship between two 1st cousins. In this case, the "Common Ancestor" would be the grandparents that they both have in common. If you chose to find the relationship between the spouses of those same two 1st cousins, Reunion would still identify the "Common Ancestor" as the grandparents of those 1st cousins. The spouses of 1st cousins are related through marriage.)

Incidentally, after reading your initial post again...

...it sounds like the common ancestors could be entered into your family file twice. To verify this, open the People sidebar on the right and search for the names of those common ancestors.

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

        Thanks:-)
