Unable to mark son of relative as a relative

    Hi all,

    I am running Reunion 10.0.6.

Recently a 2C1R* relative had a son. I entered the son in Reunion and then tried to mark "all relatives" of myself (source person). I used the following settings: Unmark everybody first, Mark source person, Mark spouses.

I tried rebuilding the cache files and the marking "all relatives" again. No success.

I tried reading the manual and searching the forum. I assume I've forgotten to do something.

Could be a glitch in the software.

I duplicated what you did. It listed several 2C1R's. I then looked at a child of a 2C1R and she shows as a 3rd Cousin on the main Family View window but there are no 3rd Cousins listed in the Relatives listing on the right. The listing skips from Spouse of 2C4R to 3C1R.

After you enter a new person that you know is a relative (or anytime after you've entered them or a group of people), you need to go to YOUR family view page, right-click on the space next to YOUR name, go down to "Find Relatives" & click. This make you the Source person and will enter that person as one of your relatives. You should see the Relatives list in the right sidebar and, if you go back to that person, they should show their relationship to you because you are the source.
      OR
You can follow the directions under "Updating Relationships" in the manual.

      Hope this helps.

But that's not where the 3rd Cousins are listed in the Relatives listing. For example, my Relatives listing headings skip from 2C3R to 3C1R in the right column. 3rd Cousin is far above that, between 2nd Cousin and 4th Cousin. I find all of the children of my 2C1R relatives are present in the 3rd Cousin section.

        Hope this helps.

The content of 'Relatives field' is passive.
So new added persons (after the proces of defining your relatives) are not found with your settings of 'Marking' all the relatives, because their 'relatives field' is empty.
Think your problem is vanished when you drag the source person to the 'Relatives button' in the left sidebar and see the result at the Relatives sidebar at the right.

Look also at the correct settings (gearwheel) at the bottom of the Relatives sidebar.

I didn't understand your explanation (in my case, marking did not mark the son, and the relationship did not show in the Family view), but dragging myself as the source person to the Relatives button in the left sidebar did the job: the son is now a 2C2R*. I marked the son manually.

Would love an explanation of exactly how that worked, but the important thing is that it worked.

Off topic: I also noticed that there are a few other buttons in that sidebar that react to drag. One day I'll have to try using them.

Re: Unable to mark son of relative as a relative

Your command 'Mark relatives' could not mark that son because the 'relationfield' of that specific son was empty.
As stated in earlier message Relationfields are passive that means that (when adding new persons) the relation field remains empty.
