Dropbox connection

I have my family file in dropbox. However, if I simply click on the icon, it opens finder and I have to go to dropbox and select the file. The alternative is to choose the file from a list which opens on the icon. Is the problem that I have several files, most of which I don't regularly use? How can I get it to open the primary file from dropbox every time?

Drag your family file to the right side of the dock. That will create an alias that you can go directly to every time.
