"Create Chart" grayed out on Relative Chart of person with a son

The person I have open when I launch the chart has a son, so that is a blood relative and I would expect a chart to be drawn. However, they have no ancestors. Is that why it won't let me create a chart?

I noticed that if I move to his son, then it lets me create a chart.

So do you have to have both an ancestor and descendant in order to be able to make a relative chart?

Yes, a person must have ancestors for a relative chart to be created. Without ancestors it is simply a descendant chart.
