How does Reunion store picture files?

I have read somewhere that Reunion makes a small copy of imported picture files and store them inside the familyfile. But every time I look at picture details inside Reunion, I see a file reference to the picture on my disk. So, what does Reunion actually do when I drag in a 20 MB picture file?

You mean the thumbnails?
Right click on your familyfile to open a context menu.
Select, Show Package Contents
Click on the thumbnails folder and, depending on your media preferences, you will see large and small thumbnails
Rebuild thumbnails allows you to choose size/quality
