I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this. I've been using the last week or so to resolve missing multimedia in my files. I created a Multimedia eception list and have been going thru one by one trying to resolve the issues. I've been finding many missing links, even though the original photos were on my system, and I thought were in my Reunion Photos file. It seemed like I was having to recreate a whole bunch of media, but I was using Snagit and it was faster to recreate than to search for the photos again. Today I came across a number of individuals that had all sorts of miscellaneous records stored as the individuals multimedia that had nothing to do with genealogy. It looks like the system was tying to the wrong file, but then I had one missing image that I knew had been in the proper file for months. It was my graphic for DNA matches. It is used frequently and on individuals that I have already cleaned up, where it was not shown as a missing link.
This has been one of the most frustrating activities I've ever done. If I was getting paid for this job, I'd probably quit. I'd like to know if anyone else has had these situations show up, or if anyone else is even checking all of their media.

Oh, and another thing. In some cases I just copied the photo from my iPhoto file to my reunion photos file and thought that would take care of the problem. I then ran an new missing multimedia report. The missing photos showed up again, even though the photo had been added to the file that was being checked. Not sure why this happened. It's as if once the photo shows up missing the system doesn't check again if the individual's record was not accessed.

I suspect that you are looking at the thumbnails of the photos on your family cards, rather than actually looking at the photo as originally stored. Your family file probably contains thumbnails that were created when the photos were first added. After the thumbnail has been created, Reunion doesn't have to access the original file again if you are merely looking at the family card. But if you print a report or try to enlarge the thumbnail, Reunion must access that original file. So it's not that your missing photos showed up again, it's that they are still unattached and you're merely looking at the thumbnails.

Have you tried using the "Repair Multimedia Links..." button found in the Multimedia preferences? It sounds like you might be trying to do by hand what it does automatically.

I keep noticing missing media files. I include them, from original sources. then weeks later when I look they are missing. I have tried repairing media links, this doesn't work. I am talking about a lot of missing media files. Very frustrating.
