    Supporting TIME in events

    Hi,

I have been using Reunion for some years and keeping my family information. For all events, I can enter dates (GEDCOM DATE tag), but not times (GEDCOM TIME tag). For example, if I can enter '17 Apr 2020', but not the corresponding time. A lot of the records that I keep contain the time of birth and the time of death, and I would like to keep this information too.

Is it possible to enter the corresponding TIME for an Event?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mario

    My two cents opinion:
I don’t want offend anyone, but in my opinion adding time is useless information that has nothing to do with genealogy and family relations etc.
In Holland there is a genealogy program that even records the length of the baby and the weight and recently there was a remark: I can only add the length in cm and not with decimal.
The same for adding time at death.
Suggestion: when you really find this is real important information for your genealogy to record, you can add the time in the memo field.

As far as I know, the TIME tag is not valid subtag of an event, anyway. The GEDCOM spec only supports TIME in the context of a CHAN (change date) record or in the file's HEAD (header).

The only people I can think of that might want to track the time of birth would be astrologers.

Astrologers and others.... In truth, Mario has fellow travelers. I have a first cousin, who has been doing genealogy for close to 40 years, who not only records birth times but also records "date first walked"...... Different strokes for different folks!

I suppose future time travelers may be thankful for his research

Yes, Dennis, Bob! I happen to like astrology. And this information is very helpful for me and maybe others. I have added the custom field for Cause of Death (CAUS tag). But it is not straight forward to record time. I was hoping TIME tag can be used as a subtag for an event.

FWIW, GEDCOM X allows using Time associated with Date: https://github.com/FamilySearch/gedc...ecification.md
I verified the GEDCOM 5 standard, and it is somewhat open regarding the use of TIME in events. I sent a question to the organization that provides the GEDCOM spec.
