    Residence event as Family event?

Starting with myself, I entered all my known residences since I was a child. Yay! Then, I started working on my wife's card and realized there was going to be a lot of duplication (we're ex-military so 17 moves in 21 years). I checked the Fields preference and don't see a way to add Residence (person event) to Family. I want to have Residence in both because I lived with my parents (residence applies to that family), then lived by myself, and then with my wife (new family). Is there a way to do that or will that violate the GEDCOM standard? Is there a reason I wouldn't want to do that?

I think if we have shared events it would solve this issue (this is something I've seen in Heredis when I used it - it was pretty handy when entering census data, for example: you would create a normal even and then mark it as shared, specifying who else was concerned). I do believe the place of residence is something specific to an individual. Otherwise, how would you handle it when dealing with, say, a 2nd marriage?

Although there isn't one by default, you can create one via:

Reunion -> Preferences... , Fields, Family, Events

Using the Add Event button at the bottom of the list on the left. Then, when in the Edit Family screen, go to the Events tab and use the Add Event... button there to add the event to the family you're editing.

Thanks, Mark, for the point in the right direction. Now that I know I can, does the forum have guidance for filling out the form: Abbreviation, Narrative Form, and most importantly I'm thinking, the GEDCOM tag? I've always used Reunion "out of the box". Are there valid naming conventions to consider? Do I need to find and consult a copy of the GEDCOM standard to know the current list of tags?

I would recommend using the same settings for these as is used for the person Residence field. If you go to Person in the Field Preferences, then to Events and select the Residence event you can see those settings -- use the same ones for your family event.

That being said, you can set most of them however you'd like. For GEDCOM tag, you should use "RESI" (no quotes), as that's the appropriate tag for that field type.
