Printing "New Features in Reunion 13"

Thank you for the information on the new features for the Reunion 13 upgrade.

Please consider reformatting the information so that it is available to save as a PDF and have the ability to print it out.

I attempted to save it as a PDF and it came out as 1 page with no visible page breaks. I appreciate being able to have the ability to print things out to study and write notes as I learn how to navigate the new changes.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.

    Kindest regards,
    Lynda McCann

    Hi Lynda,
I wasn't sure if you want to print the New Features page on our web site, or the New Features page in the Reunion 13 manual.
But, either way, if you choose File > Print from the menu at the top, the text (and images, in the case of the web page) will print properly.
When printing the New Features page in the Reunion manual, it'll print 3 pages.
When printing the New Features page on our web site, it'll print 7 pages (the graphic illustrations require more space).
I'm using Safari, if that makes a difference.
Similarly, when choosing File > Print in either scenario, you have the option to click the macOS "PDF" button and save the pages to a PDF file.

How do I print out the entire manual as a PDF? Somewhere I found a PDF of the entire Reunion 12 manual, so I guess it will still work with 13 but I really need a PDF version to use in Preview at the same time I'm working with Reunion. With the built-in manual you can't work with Reunion while simultaneously viewing the manual which makes the manual worthless. Though I suppose I could install Reunion 13 on a MacBook Air and just use it as the manual.

Thank you Dennis. I’m among those who find an online User Manual very difficult to work with. Yes, I know that there are hundreds of links to things within the manual. Following this with interest

Huh? The manual opens as a separate window and does not impede progress. I do this all the time.

There is an old thread from 2015 discussing this subject of printing the manual as a PDF. Probably the answer is still the same. Found at https://www.reuniontalk.com/forum/us...-manual-as-pdf.

You must have a gigantic screen, Bob, as I can only view one window/tab at a time on my 21.5" iMac if I want legibility. When the Reunion Help window is open, it covers at least 1/3 of the Reunion window. I have to minimize the Help window while I try to remember what it said to do in Reunion and do it. Then restore the Help window to read the next step, and repeat.

No that isn't it. I've noticed that software coders forget that real people are using their software and aren't as conversant with it as is the coder. PDFs can be made with active links so once the online manual is done, it is a simple process for them to make a PDF version direct from the source. However, it is extremely hard for an ordinary user to make a viable PDF that retains the links. Another benefit of PDF over online is: I can load the PDF on my iPad and then just read it before I ever have to launch Reunion. I'll probably just use the Reunion 12 PDF I have for now.

I am not sure why the manual is taking up so much room on your screen. I am using a 13" MacBook Pro and the manual takes up about 1/4 of my screen. Try dragging the edges of the manual window to resize it.

True, but again usability comes into play. I've been able to reduce the Manual window to 5.5 mm high and 11mm wide and then position it so it covers the least amount of the Reunion window area, however, it has to be restored to the default 25mm x 15.5mm size to get back usability.

One suggestion is pressing Command ~ (tilde) when the manual is open, to cycle the front-most window. When using this approach, the manual window can be larger and when pressing Command ~ it scoots behind the Edit Person window or whatever window you're working in. I use that approach myself, even on a larger screen -- so that both my Reunion window and manual window can be larger.

If you're running macOS Catalina, another option is to use the new built-in support for window tiling (which Apple calls "Split View"). Open your family file and the manual window, then hover over the round green "full screen" button at the top left of one of the windows. Choose "Tile Window to Left of Screen" or "Tile Window to Right of Screen." The system will give you a chance to pick which window that will tile to the other side. Click on that window's thumbnail and you'll be in a "full screen" mode that shows both windows. You can drag the divider between the two to adjust their sizes. When you're done, you can exit out of full screen by moving the mouse pointer to the top of the screen until the window's title bar appears, and click again on the green button again.

If you have an iPad, yet another option in Catalina is the Sidecar feature that allows you to use the iPad as a second display. With Sidecar enabled, you can just drag the manual window over to the iPad screen and leave your iMac's monitor available for you main Reunion workflow.

Brad, I'm maxed out at High Sierra. I have the Reunion 12 Manual in PDF format on my iPad, but would like a PDF version of 13 to put on the iPad. Failing getting a PDF version for Reunion 13, my first solution will be to use the Reunion 12 PDF on the iPad; my second solution is to put Reunion 13 on my MacBook and just use it for the built in manual.

Just the iMac 27". In addition to genealogy things, mostly using Reunion, there are several organization reports I do regularly. Spending the extra $$ for the bigger screen is one of my best investments in lots of years. There are lots of situations where being able to see two full windows side by side makes doing things so much more efficient.

Right now I don't have space for a larger screen, but I'm seriously considering a refurbished 27" iMac when I finally have to replace this 21.5" iMac. Maybe I'll see about using it for a second screen if it is still working.
